Dr. Howington received his Doctor of Pharmacy from the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy (COP) in 2014. He started working full-time at UK HealthCare as a clinical staff pharmacist in operations and on-call Emergency Medicine Pharmacist. In 2016, he transitioned into a pharmacy operations manager role prior to moving into a full-time Emergency Medicine Pharmacist Position in 2018. Approximately two years later, Dr. Howington made a career jump to the UK COP. However, a significant portion of his job still focused on emergency medicine pharmacy practice. Now, Dr. Howington is an Associate Professor at the UK COP where he currently spends approximately 30% of his time practicing as an emergency medicine pharmacist. Dr. Howington’s current research interests include rabies post-exposure prophylaxis, urinary tract infection management in the emergency department, phenobarbital as a treatment for acute alcohol withdrawal, and antimicrobial stewardship in the emergency department. Additionally, Dr. Howington is a member of the Emergency Medicine PHARMacotherapy research NETwork (EMPHARM-NET) which has afforded him the opportunity to work with emergency medicine pharmacy specialists from across the US.
Dr. Harris received her Doctor of Pharmacy at Purdue University College of Pharmacy in 2022. Following pharmacy school, she completed a PGY-1 Acute Care Pharmacy Residency and PGY2 Emergency Medicine Residency at the University of Kentucky (UK). She is board-certified in emergency medicine pharmacy (BCEMP) and works as an Emergency Medicine Clinical Pharmacist Specialist at UK HealthCare. Her professional interests include academia, psychiatric emergencies, transitions of care, and wilderness medicine.
Dr. Woolum is a clinical toxicologist and emergency medicine pharmacist at UK HealthCare. Dr. Woolum graduated from the UK College of Pharmacy in 2016. After graduation, he completed a PGY1 and then PGY2 pharmacy residency in emergency medicine. Dr. Woolum has worked in academic emergency department settings in both West Virginia, and more recently in Kentucky, where he currently operates in both the academic and community hospital emergency settings. Additionally, through his work and research with America’s Poison Centers, and the Kentucky Poison Control Center, Dr. Woolum is formally recognized as a board-certified clinical toxicologist (DABAT) and pharmacotherapy specialist (BCPS), and works as an extension officer for the regional poison center. Dr. Woolum continues to perform clinical research in both emergency medicine and toxicology, is an assistant adjunct professor for the UK College of Pharmacy, operates as a fatality abstract writer and reviewer for America’s Poison Centers, and is active within the American Academy of Clinical Toxicology.
